    POLY-B contains Polymyxin B, an antibiotic mainly used to treat serious bacterial infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria. It is often reserved for infections that do not respond to other antibiotics. POLY-B is usually given by injection in hospitals, particularly in intensive care settings, and sometimes used topically for skin and eye infections.

    Mechanism of Action:

    Polymyxin B works by:

    • Attaching to the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria

    • Disrupting the bacterial cell wall structure

    • Causing leakage of cell contents

    • Leading to bacterial cell death

      Uses:

      POLY-B is used for treating serious infections such as:

      • Bloodstream infections (sepsis) caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria

      • Urinary tract infections

      • Pneumonia, especially hospital-acquired or ventilator-associated

      • Meningitis in selected cases

      • Skin, eye, and wound infections (topical formulations)

        Adverse Effects:

        Polymyxin B can have significant side effects, especially when given by injection:
