Pemetrex-500-mg

Pemetrex-500 mg contains Pemetrexed, a multi-targeted antifolate anticancer agent. It is used in the treatment of certain solid tumors, particularly lung cancers. Pemetrexed works by disrupting essential metabolic processes required for cancer cell growth and replication.

Mechanism of Action

Pemetrexed inhibits multiple key enzymes involved in folate metabolism, including:

• Thymidylate synthase (TS)
• Dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR)
• Glycinamide ribonucleotide formyltransferase (GARFT)

By blocking these enzymes, it:

• Inhibits DNA and RNA synthesis
• Prevents cancer cell replication
• Leads to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis (cell death)

Uses

Pemetrex-500 mg (Pemetrexed) is indicated for:

• Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) (advanced or metastatic)
• Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma (often in combination with cisplatin)

It is commonly used as first-line or maintenance therapy depending on the condition.
